Here are some of the writings that caught our attention this past month:
- AI’s data center buildup won’t just require lots of energy—it will also require lots of water. AllianceBernstein has an illuminating chart that projects a 33% increase in water demand over the next 5 years:

- Noah Smith argues that the revolution in war technology, headed by drone development, will likely portend massive changes in society in the coming years
- Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson and Colin Jost bought the Staten Island ferry in 2022. The New York Times describes the ensuing fiasco (though at least Davidson and Jost can joke about it)
- Josh Barro analyzes why Republicans have struggled for years to develop an Obamacare alternative
- President Trump has floated the idea of a 50-year mortgage. Sherwood’s Claire Yubin Oh and David Crowther do some math, and find that while monthly payments are slightly lower, as per the chart below, it would take 31 years to gain $100k in equity on a $444k home purchase:
